Rancho Palos Verdes resident Joyce Chai honored for being named the 2008 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize Winner for research involving environmental, scientific, and/or technological studies. 

 

The Department of Public Works Dragon Boat Racing Team recognized for winning gold and bronze medals in the 2008 Long Beach International Dragon Boat Festival.

 

Status report to be given on transition to new LAC+USC Medical Center.  (Item S-1, 11 a.m.)RECEIVED AND FILED

 

$16.8 million proposal would fund acquisition/redevelopment of foreclosed properties that might otherwise become sources of abandonment/urban blight. (Items 1-D, 31, cont. from 11/8) APPROVED

 

Approval sought to build gymnasium instead of auditorium at Alondra Park in Lawndale, at cost of $7.6 million.  (Item 1-P, 18) APPROVED

 

$6.7 million proposal would fund construction of driving range and batting cages at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area in Baldwin Hills, and name it the “Yvonne B. Burke Driving Range;”  baseball field at park would also be named after the outgoing supervisor, as well as senior and community center at Ladera Park. (Items 2-P, 9, 14, 30) APPROVED

 

Recommendation calls for increasing developer fees in three high-growth areas to pay for new fire stations.  (Item 1) APPROVED

 

Proposal would increase County golf course green fees.  (Item 2) APPROVED

 

Board asked to increase the cost of round-trip Hollywood Bowl park-and-ride fares  and shuttle service fees.   (Item 3) APPROVED

 

Proposal would raise the waste disposal fee from $36.42 per ton to $38.88 per ton at the Calabasas Landfill.   (Item 5) APPROVED

 

Supervisors asked to re-approve plans for the construction of a 544-unit apartment complex in Marina del Rey.  (Item 6) KNABE CONT. TO 12/16

 

Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky and Michael D. Antonovich request extending deadlines for upcoming property tax payments to homeowners whose property was damaged/destroyed by the recent fires, and adjusting their property taxes to reflect the recent loss of structures.  (Item 8) APPROVED AS REVISED ON SUPPLEMENTAL AGENDA

 

Board asked to extend the free use of classroom space at the Sheriff’s Training Center in Whittier for Rio Hondo Community College in return for the college’s commitment to spend up to $3 million for the construction of new classrooms to accommodate enrollment.   (Item 10) APPROVED

 

Supervisors asked to review the operating agreement with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to determine if additional funding is necessary to operate the facility in light of the $900,000 provided by the museum to the “Yes on Measure R” campaign.   (Item 13) APPROVED

 

Extension of $10,000 reward proposed for information leading to the arrest/conviction of person(s) responsible for the murders of Clifton Hibbert, Jr. and Kenneth Patterson, who were shot in the Exposition Park area on March 28.   (Item 17) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke  requests development of plan requiring County departments to implement beverage container and paper recycling programs, and eliminate the purchase of paper with less than 30 percent recycled content by 2010.   (Item 19) APPROVED

$10.4 million proposal would replace gas-to-energy plant at the Palos Verdes Landfill with a more efficient renewable energy facility.   (Item 22) APPROVED

 

$9 million proposal would fund additional as-needed services related to eCAPS, the County’s payroll system, upping budget to $160.2 million.   (Item 24, cont. from 11/18) APPROVED WITH REPORT BACK

 

Supervisors asked to approve plans for 246-unit condominium development on 4.74 acres in West Carson area.  (Item 25) APPROVED

 

Exclusive trash franchise recommended for Hacienda Heights.  (Item 32, cont. from 11/5, 11/18) KNABE CONT. TO 12/2

 

$4 million proposal would fund expansion and refurbishment of the existing community center building and other improvements at the Del Aire Park in Hawthorne. (Item 33) APPROVED

 

Acceptance of $80,000 grant would purchase of second police patrol boat and trailer for Castaic Lake.   (Item 34) APPROVED

 

Acceptance of $2.5 million from the City of Carson would fund its portion of the Carson Sheriff Station renovation/expansion project, estimated to cost between $6.1 - $6.9 million.  (Item 36) APPROVED

 

Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky and Michael D. Antonovich ask uniform policy be adopted in evaluating bidders’ proposals, including prohibiting the destruction of scoring sheets and materials and suspension of consensus-only scoring.  (Item 39-A) APPROVED AS AMENDED

 

Supervisor Don Knabe asks investigation into organization called “Safe Surrender Site, Inc.” which attempts to charge $500 to help entities become certified as “Safe Haven” sites.  (Item 39-B) APPROVED

 

Report requested on current issues regarding transporting individuals with mental health issues for involuntary treatment at locked facilities.  (Item 39-C) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke recommends implementation of a reward program in unincorporated areas for information regarding illegal dumping.  (Item 39-E) APPROVED AS REVISED TO CONDUCT FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR PILOT PROGRAM

 

$10,000 reward proposed for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for murder of 20-year-old Anthony Adame in Lynwood on April 29, 2007.  (Item 39-F) APPROVED

 

Board asks report on impact of expected rainstorms on Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, which is at risk due to devastation of trees and vegetation on the campus by the Sayre fire, and assessment of fire damage to Pacoima Dam infrastructure with repair plan. (Motion introduced at meeting.)  APPROVED

 

Supervisors ask for report on Dec. 2 on legal, financial and equity issues raised by proposed Los Angeles City fee on Sunshine Canyon Landfill waste.  (Motion introduced at meeting.) APPROVED

 

Board in closed session discusses litigation arising from allegation that the Department of Children and Family Services failed to adequately respond to child abuse referrals.  (Item CS-1)
