You say you're fed up with the shenanigans in Sacramento? Now you -- yes, you -- can do something about it. If you take action now, you could be elected to the California Senate on March 3, 2009!

You can start running, Monday, for the State Senate seat that will open up Sunday when Mark Ridley-Thomas resigns to take his new position on the County Board of Supervisors. The Senate Seat will be filled in the same election on March 3, 2009 as the Mayor's race.

Are you eligible? Well, here are the communities that Senate District 26 covers:

Senate District 26 includes the communities of Baldwin Hills, Baldwin Vista, Beverlywood, Carthay Circle, Century City, the Crenshaw District, Culver City, Hancock Park, Hollywood, Hyde Park, Jefferson Park, Ladera Heights, Lafayette Square, Larchmont, Leimert Park, Los Feliz, Miracle Mile, South Central Los Angeles, View Park, West Los Angeles and Windsor Hills, among others.

Unlike the Roman Senate, California Senators do not typically wear togas. So don't count on comfortable attire. But think of the good you could do. One vote could be the difference between insanely high taxes and super-duper insanely high taxes.

I don't know the details of how one runs for State Senate, but if you live in that district, I'll help you find out. Sure, it's Thanksgiving, but that doesn't mean we should sit by and let a turkey take over this Senate seat. Go for it. Get your "Mr. Smith Goes To Sacramento" on!
