SAYRE (SYLMAR) FIRE / DIAMOND BAR FIRE
Wildfires continue to burn
Los Angeles County: As of 10:29 p.m., Friday, November 14, a fire broke out in the area of 13000 W. Sayre St, Los Angeles, in the foothill community on the edge of the Angeles National Forest. The fire was fueled by high winds causing the fire to spread at approximately ½ acre per hour. The fire has burned 10,000+ acres and is at 40% containment. Up to 1200 fire personnel have been on scene fighting this fire from Los Angeles County, Los Angeles City and the U.S. Forrest Service.
Los Angeles County and the State of California have proclaimed a State of Emergency in the County due to the wildfires.
Residents are still encouraged to check-in at one of the evacuation centers that have been set up by the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles at: Sylmar High School, 13050 Borden St., Sylmar and San Fernando High School, 11133 O’Melveny Ave., San Fernando.
All Los Angeles Unified School District schools are open today, Monday, November 17, 2008.
An animal shelter has been set up in the Hansen Dam recreation area. Horse and other large animals were being taken to Hansen Dam Park, Kennedy High School and Pierce College. A mobile kennel has been set up at Sylmar High School, and small pets can be taken to the Mission animal shelter at Strandwood Avenue and Brand Boulevard.

Rancho Palos Verdes Fire – Approximately 5 acres at the intersection of Palos Verdes Drive and Hawthorne Boulevard has been fully contained and knocked down. No structures were damaged.
The Freeway Complex Fire broke out on Saturday, November 15 and continues to burn with 40% containment. No hard numbers on homes or other structures that may have been destroyed or damaged at this time. Nearby residents are encouraged to prepare for evacuation. Monitor news radio and obey the verbal orders of uniformed public safety personnel in the neighborhood. Fire personnel on scene are from Los Angeles County Fire Department, CAL Fire, Orange County Fire Authority, Anaheim Fire Department, and Chino Fire Department.
· The American Red Cross has set up the following evacuation centers: Diamond Bar High School, 21400 Pathfinder Road, Diamond Bar and Walnut High School, 440 N. Pierre, Walnut.
