More Important Than Jamiel's Law?

More Important Than Jamiel's Law?
By Walter Moore, Candidate for Mayor Of Los Angeles, WalterMooreForMayor.com

On Friday, November 7, 2008, the City Council will not consider Jamiel's Law. Council Members will not debate whether to end "sanctuary city" protection for gang members who enter the country illegally to commit murder, sell drugs, and collect "taxes" from terrified residents, both legal and illegal.

Over 40,000 registered voters in L.A. have signed the petition to put Jamiel's Law -- which I wrote and sent to City Council in March 2008 -- on the ballot. However, stopping illegal alien gang members from murdering outstanding young people like Jamiel Shaw, II is not important enough for the City Council's precious time.

Instead, Council Members Zine, Garcetti, Reyes and Huizar have all signed Resolution No. 62, on which the full City Council will vote. It is Item 40 on Friday's agenda.

Why is Resolution No. 62 more important than Jamiel's Law? Simple: it would re-affirm City Hall's commitment to aid and abet illegal immigration, and to demonize citizens and legal aliens who want our laws enforced. Resolution No. 62 would show City Hall's support for people who are fasting to protest enforcement of our immigration laws.

Resolution No. 62 states that, "WHEREAS, immigrant raids and deportations, hate crimes and a growing anti-immigrant sentiment are evidence that the rights of immigrant [sic] continue to be violated . . . BE IT RESOLVED that . . . the Council of the City of Los Angeles hereby recognizes and commends the effort of Fast for Our Future to hold the hunger strike in support of immigrant rights."

In other words, City Hall would lump together enforcement of our immigration laws -- disparagingly characterized as "immigrant raids and deportations" -- with "hate crimes." City Hall would likewise mischaracterize enforcement of our immigration laws as "anti-immigrant" rather than pro-law enforcement.

Shame on Villaraigosa and shame on City Council for turning their back on the Shaw family, on the 40,000 citizens who have signed the petition to put Jamiel's Law on the ballot, and, indeed, on everyone who lives here.

We will throw them out of office. We will replace Villaraigosa and every City Council Member who puts the interests of illegal alien gang members above the lives of law-abiding families.

This isn't idle talk, by the way. As you know, I am already running for Mayor. What you may not know is that several people who, like you, me and 71% of our fellow Americans, want local law enforcement to help enforce immigration laws, are already running or on the verge of running for City Controller, City Attorney, and City Council for Districts 3, 11 and 15.

You, they and I are going to clean house at City Hall. It's going to happen. You just have to keep spreading the word. Click here to help.
