211 LA COUNTY DEPLOYS STAFF TO LOCAL ASSISTANCE CENTERS
211 LA County an organization that offers telephone assistance to people during disasters is ready to help people affected by the fires. 211 staff will be on site at the Local Assistance Centers to provide resources such as emergency food, shelter, information on accessing county services and post disaster resources that are available for those affected by the fires.
211 LA County has over 26 years experience providing services during and after disaster. 211 LA County has been involved in working in the LAC centers since its inception. 211 LA County is the designated disaster hotline for Los Angeles County. During an emergency or disaster Los Angeles County residents can also call the 211 toll free hotline to get updated disaster and emergency information 24 hours a day 7 days a week. During non-emergencies the hotline provides recorded information regarding disaster preparedness. Disaster and emergency information is also posted on the 211LACounty.org website.
“2-1-1 is part of an effective disaster response and recovery plan. With only one number to remember, affected residents can get the services and help they need quickly,” noted Maribel Marin, Executive Director of 211 LA County.
The local assistance center will be opened on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Sylmar Recreation Center located at 13019 Borden Ave. Sylmar CA. 91342 The local assistance centers will provide a single place for fire victims to get help in starting their recovery process. The hours of operation for the centers are Monday through Friday form 9 A.M. to 6 P.M., Saturday form 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Sunday from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.
Holiday hours for LAC is as follows:
Wednesday, November 26, 2008, the hours will be 9:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.
The Center will be closed on the following days:
