SAYRE (SYLMAR) FIRE / DIAMOND BAR FIRE
Wildfires continue to burn
Los Angeles County: As of 10:29 p.m., Friday, November 14, a fire broke out in the area of 13000 W. Sayre St, Los Angeles, in the foothill community on the edge of the Angeles National Forest. The fire was fueled by high winds causing the fire to spread at approximately ½ acre per hour. The fire has burned 10,000+ acres and is at 40% containment. Up to 1200 fire personnel have been on scene fighting this fire from Los Angeles County, Los Angeles City and the U.S. Forrest Service.
Los Angeles County and the State of California have proclaimed a State of Emergency in the County due to the wildfires.
Los Angeles County Fire Chief, P. Michael Freeman said, “The Los Angeles County Fire Department has made a massive commitment to help fight three major wildland brush fires occurring outside and within Los Angeles County. At the height of these fires, the County deployed more than 1,000 personnel around the clock, including firefighters, ground crews, Super Scoopers, helicopter crews, dozer operators and others, to protect the public. All of these resources were made available while maintaining an increased level of personnel and equipment to respond to other wildland incidents that might break out. As the region’s high front moves to the east and winds subside, firefighters should be able to reach full containment of all fires in the next few days.”
Residents are still encouraged to check-in at one of the evacuation centers that have been set up by the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles at: Sylmar High School, 13050 Borden St., Sylmar.
An animal shelter has been set up in the Hansen Dam recreation area. Horse and other large animals were being taken to Hansen Dam Park, Kennedy High School and Pierce College. A mobile kennel has been set up at Sylmar High School, and small pets can be taken to the Mission animal shelter at Strandwood Avenue and Brand Boulevard.
