GLORIA MOLINA ANNOUNCES MAJOR TREE PLANTING

PROJECT ALONG EAST LOS ANGELES BOULEVARDS

 

Up to $470,000 to Beautify Major East L.A. Thoroughfares with 570 Trees

 

LOS ANGELES (February 3, 2009)—Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina announced that plans were approved today to plant new trees along several major boulevards throughout unincorporated East Los Angeles.

“We’ve dedicated tremendous resources upgrading East Los Angeles parks, libraries, and other facilities, and now it’s time we bring tree-lined streets back to this neighborhood,” Molina said.

At today’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors, Molina and her colleagues approved between $400,000 to $470,000 for the tree planting project using funds from the First Supervisorial District’s Road Construction Program.  Work should begin in July 2009, be complete by August 2009, and take approximately 40 working days.

Up to 570 trees will be planted along the following thoroughfares:

·         Atlantic Boulevard from Beverly Boulevard to Whittier Boulevard

·         Beverly Boulevard from Third Street to Gerhart Avenue

·         César Chávez Avenue from Indiana Street to Vancouver Avenue

·         City Terrace Drive from Alma Avenue to Eastern Avenue

·         Ford Boulevard from Floral Drive to Olympic Boulevard

·         Garfield Avenue from Allston Street to Ferguson Drive

·         Olympic Boulevard from Indiana Street to Goodrich Boulevard

Effective immediately, the county’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is soliciting bids for the project through Tuesday, March 3, 2009 before 11 a.m.  All bids should be submitted by that time to the DPW’s Cashier’s Office, located on the Mezzanine level at DPW Headquarters, 900 South Fremont Avenue, Alhambra, California 91803-1331  Proposal forms can be picked up at that address or by calling (6t26) 458-6959 Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Work requires a California Class C27 or C61(D49) contractor’s license.  Prebid questions should be directed to Mr. Harry Cong of DPW at (626) 458-3111.
