President Obama Wants YOU - and Bring Along Your $$$

Howard Marks is a financier with $55 billion at his disposal, and President Obama wants him, and other private investors like him, to help shore up the nation's troubled banks by putting money into trouble assets that few others will touch. Investments from the private sector might just counter some of the fear on Wall Street and help to get money moving again. But even Marks, one of the biggest players in "distressed investing," is not sure this is such a good deal. The risks, both political and financial, are huge, and profit-taking by "vulture" investors in this economy could be seen as a negative by stock-holders and the public.  So, what are the benefits, what are the risks, and what is the answer?

Guests:

Howard Marks, Chairman of Oaktree Capital Management, a money management firm based in Los Angeles.  He is a former banker who became a pioneer in the graveyard of Wall Street, and is one of the biggest players in distressed investing - putting money into risky investments that few others will touch.

Luckily There’s a Family Guy: Seth MacFarlane’s Irreverent World

It’s a delicious irony of pop-culture—a cartoon TV show that makes its living referencing and lampooning popular culture has itself become a pop icon.  Seth MacFarlane created “Family Guy” when he was only 24-years-old and it has since developed into a $1 billion franchise.  Since then Seth has fought numerous creative battles with the Fox Network, created several new cartoon projects and spin-offs of “Family Guy” and even ventured into Broadway musicals and video games.  It’s a blazing career path that is about as surreal as a talking dog or an evil baby bent on world domination—it’s Seth MacFarlane’s irreverent world.

Guest:

Seth MacFarlane, Emmy award-winning screenwriter, animator, producer, voice actor and creator of Fox TV’s “Family Guy”

  • Seth is speaking at a Q&A session at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach on Saturday, Feb. 28th starting at 8pm.  To get more information or buy tickets, check their website www.carpenterarts.org.
