Ask the Chief
It’s our monthly installment of Ask the Chief—your opportunity to ask LAPD Chief William Bratton your law and order questions. This month Patt asks the Chief about the LAPD and Officers’ Union’s tangle over the collection of officers’ DNA, a recent study by the Department of Justice detailing Gang violence across the country, as well as the LA Police Commission’s release of confidential names of officers accused of misconduct such as racial profiling. We also get the Chief’s take on why he’s supporting Jack Weiss in the race for L.A. City Attorney.
Guests:
William Bratton, Chief, Los Angeles Police Department
2:41 – 2:58:30
Barbie and Ruth
Throughout her history, Barbie has been both cultural icon and chimera—both the object of young girls’ envy and feminists’ resentment. But the lesser known story is of the female creator behind Barbie, Ruth Handler, the tenth child of Polish Jewish immigrants, who fought to establish herself in a fiercely male-dominated field. Author Robin Gerber is here with the tragic, redeeming story of two women who changed American business and culture.
Guests:
Robin Gerber, author of Barbie and Ruth: the Story of the World’s Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her
