                                      IT IS GOING TO BE A HAPPY PAWLIDAYS

                                  FOR SHELTER PETS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

 

 

            In an effort to place as many homeless pets into new, loving homes this holiday season, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) will hold seven simultaneous adoption events on Saturday, December 18, 2010. Sponsored by the Found Animals Foundation, “Happy Pawlidays,” will be held at 14 animal care centers throughout the greater Los Angeles area.  Each of the six County animal shelters (as well as the Antelope Valley Adoption Center) will partner with the City of Los Angeles’ Animal Services and the Southeast Area Animal Control Agency (SEAACA). Adoption fees will be discounted.  The promotion will run through December 24, 2010. On December 18, 2010, the event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until 5:00 p.m.

 

            Deputy Director of Outreach and Special Enforcement, Michelle Roaché, emphasizes the significance and impact of adoption. Roaché notes that “Each year, the Department takes in more than 90,000 animals.  There are not enough homes for all of them. Supporting adoption rather than irresponsible breeding is one way to significantly help reduce the pet over-population problem.”

 

            This is the second year that DACC has partnered with the City of Los Angeles’ Animal Services and SEAACA to host a holiday-themed adoption event.  Last year, 445 animals were adopted into new homes in time for the holidays.  The goal for this year’s event is to place the highest number of animals into new homes in recent history.

*This location only houses dogs immediately available for adoption and are ready to take home the same day.
