AQUATIC FOUNDATION TO HONOR SUPERVISOR MARK RIDLEY-THOMAS

AND FIVE DISTINGUISHED ATHLETES AT COMMUNITY LUNCHEON

 

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 8, 2009) – The Aquatic Foundation of Metropolitan Los Angeles (AFMLA) will honor L.A. County Board Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas at the foundation’s 14th annual “Salute to Champions” luncheon, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 9 at the Marriott Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, 333 S. Figueroa Street.

 

In addition, five former standout professional athletes and community volunteers will be honored for their contributions to their individual sports and their continuing commitments and contributions to serving the community. ABC/7 News Anchor Marc Brown is Master of Ceremonies for the event. 

 

The honorees include:

            Mary Jo Swalley -   Southern California Swimming/ USA Swimming

            Mike Nyeholt & Ron Orr - Founders, “Swim with Mike” program

 Marlin Briscoe -      Former NFL Member & Associate Director of Boys & Girls Clubs/ Long Beach

Jim Cleamons -       Los Angeles Lakers Assistant Coach and former NBA Player

 

The AFMLA is a foundation committed to raising money to promote the physical and mental benefits of swimming to inner-city youth and seniors.  Funds are used to assist pool operations in the Second District of Los Angeles and to promote aquatic programs for both youth and seniors.
