REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK AT THE FAIR

Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean Logan announced this week that RR/CC staff will be on hand at the upcoming Los Angeles County Fair providing information and services to the public.  The Department will host two booths.  The main booth, located in the rear of Agricultural Building No. 4, will be open Wednesday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning on September 5th and continuing through October 4th.  The booth will also be open Labor Day, Monday, September 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Booth activities will include voter registration, voter education and information about upcoming elections, and recruitment of paid poll workers.  RR/CC booths will also provide recorder and vital records information, including applications to request copies of birth, death, and marriage records.

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming November 3rd Consolidated Elections is October 19th.  In addition, in 2010 the County will conduct statewide primaries and general elections.  Logan urged eligible citizens to be sure and confirm their voter registration.  RR/CC staff will be available to assist eligible citizens with voter registration and to update registrations for those who have moved, changed their names or wish to change their political party affiliations.  Vote by Mail ballot applications for the November 3rd Elections will also be available at the booth.

The Department is also actively recruiting poll workers for the November 3rd Consolidated Elections.  Ask RR/CC staff at the booth for more information about serving as a paid poll worker in an upcoming election.  “Serving as a poll worker is an excellent opportunity for citizens to take part in democracy and give back to their community—and it pays,” said Logan.

Poll workers receive an $80 stipend for Election Day and an additional $25 bonus for attending a 1½ hour pre-election training session.  The RR/CC is especially interested in bilingual poll workers who can speak Armenian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog/Filipino or Vietnamese.

The Fifth Annual Los Angeles County Day at the Fair is Sunday, September 13th.  Elected officials and department heads will join County employees in celebrating this special day.  This is an opportunity which allows each of the County Departments to showcase its services and the great team of employees who deliver those services.  Activities will include a parade at noon featuring County vehicles and employees, an Expo area from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with informational booths staffed by departments, and a horse race in honor of the County.  RR/CC Dean Logan will ride on the Department Head float.  The RR/CC float which is presently under construction has been designed to reflect the services the Department provides to the residents of Los Angeles County.

As part of Los Angeles County Day at the Fair on September 13th, the RR/CC will feature a second booth along the parade route in the Expo area with voter education, voter registration and poll worker recruitment information.  Materials such as voter guides and informational pamphlets will be available at the booth as well as InkaVote devices to demonstrate the voting process.
