FAMILY FUN AT ‘DISCOVER MARINA DEL REY DAY 2009’

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11

 

MARINA DEL REY, CALIF. - Sept. 23, 2009 - Families will be treated to an event-filled day when the Department of Beaches and Harbors presents Discover Marina del Rey Day 2009, Sunday, October 11 from 11 am to 4 pm in Burton Chace Park.

Discover Marina del Rey Day 2009 is a community event that can be enjoyed free of charge.  However, visitors who want to use the popular inflatables and games are asked to pay $5 for a wristband.  The wristband also entitles visitors to snack carts and a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.  Food and beverages are also available for sale throughout the day at the Park’s restaurant, Café Petra.

Events include informational booths on health, safety and the environment; an Arts & Crafts workshop with staff from the Department of Parks and Recreation; Children’s Storytime presented by the Lloyd Taber – Marina del Rey Library; and performances by the Bob Baker Marionettes.  Guests can enjoy an exciting Search & Rescue demonstration from the United States Coast Guard and tours aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut.  Join the W.A.T.E.R. Youth Program for kayaking in the main channel and the Marina del Rey Anglers for Youth Fishing.  Live music at the event will include the Venice High School choral group, the Allegros, under the direction of Wendy Kornbeck, as well as the Susie Hansen Latin Band performing Afro-Cuban Latin jazz from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

Meet the animators of the Whooza Kooza Crew promoting Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA.  Get into the act and pose for photos with the Whooza Kooza Crew for your chance to win a pair of tickets to KOOZA by Cirque du Soleil at the Santa Monica Pier.

Burton Chace Park is located at 13650 Mindanao Way, off the Marina (90) Freeway.  Parking is available for $5 in Los Angeles County Lot # 4 located at 13500 Mindanao Way near the Park.  For event information call (310) 305-9545.
