FINAL PUSH TO REGISTER VOTERS FOR NOVEMBER 2ND ELECTION

Registrar of Voters to Launch 16 Hour Registration Drive Countywide

The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk today announced that it will launch a countywide effort to assist Los Angeles County citizens to register and vote in anticipation of the October 18, 2010 voter registration deadline for the November 2nd General Election.  The Department will set up ten drive-through voter registration sites at local Department of Motor Vehicle offices and City Halls, and Community centers across the County (Attachment).  Trained staff will be on hand from 8:00 am to 12:00 am to assist potential voters to complete and submit their voter registration up until the deadline.  To be eligible to vote this November 2nd eligible citizens must register by October 18, 2010.

“In these tough times our residents are hard at work keeping Los Angeles County and California moving, we want to work just as hard to be sure that registering to vote is just as easy as a quick stop at the supermarket—a quick pit stop on the way home,” said Dean Logan.

The Department estimates that approximately 1.5 million citizen adults in Los Angeles County are not registered to vote.

The effort is also being supported by a number of prominent civic organizations.  Partners include the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, and Voto Latino.

About Voter Registration

    • Individuals who wish to register must be at least 18 years of age by Election Day, a U.S. Citizen and resident of Los Angeles County, and not in prison or on parole for conviction of a felony. If you have recently moved, made a legal name change, or wish to change political party affiliation, the voter must re-register to vote.

    • Persons wishing to register may also visit www.lavote.net to access an online voter registration form. Voter registration forms are also available by calling the Voter Registration Request Line – (800) 481-VOTE (8883) or at over 1,240 locations across the County – including libraries, fire stations, post offices, public assistance offices (DPSS, WIC), and City Clerks offices.

    • Residents who are not sure if they are registered to vote should visit www.lavote.net to verify voter registration status online, or call the RR/CC at (562) 466-1310 or (562) 466-1323.

Further details about these services and other election information regarding the General Election on November 2nd can be found on the RR/CC website at www.lavote.net.
