CALIFORNIA FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL TO HONOR CAPTAIN HALL AND

ENGINEER QUINONES ON OCTOBER 16TH

Annual Sacramento ceremony honors 31 of California’s bravest, including Station Fire heroes

Hundreds of uniformed firefighters from throughout California will gather at the State Capitol in Sacramento to pay tribute to California firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our state safe. The California Firefighters Memorial Ceremony and Firefighter Procession will honor 31 individuals whose names will be added to the California Firefighters Memorial. The Memorial, unveiled in April 2002, honors the more than 1,100 fallen California firefighters who have lost their lives. A uniformed firefighters procession will begin at 11:15 a.m. (staging at the Capitol South Steps) and the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.

The annual Memorial Ceremony honors firefighters who died in the line of duty, either from injuries sustained in the line of duty or from job-related causes. Among those to be honored at the solemn gathering will be six Los Angeles County firefighters, including Fire Captain Ted Hall and Engineer Arnie Quinones, who lost their lives in the devastating 2009 Station Fire, while struggling to save over 60 people who were at the hilltop camp. Additionally Captain Philip Arreguin, Jr., Captain Carrie Henger-Neff, Engineer Tonya Burns, Los Angeles County Fire’s first African-American female firefighter, and Engineer Richard Carr’s names will all be added to the Memorial Wall.
