sheriff’s agreement with i.c.e. targeting criminal illegals renewed by the Board of Supervisors

LOS ANGELES COUNTY – The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a new Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The agreement, also known as the 287(g) program, was debated in January of 2005 and approved on a 3-2 vote.  Since implementation in 2006, Sheriff’s Custody Assistants have interviewed over 52,000 convicted inmates of which over 20,000 had ICE holds placed on them.

“The Board’s unanimous support of renewing this public safety program is a testament to the program’s success under the leadership of Sheriff Lee Baca,” said Supervisor Antonovich.
