Is LAPD Ready to Shed Consent Decree?
Since 2001, after the Rodney King and the Rampart division corruption cases exposed a pattern of police misconduct, the U.S. Justice Department has governed the policies of the LAPD under a consent decree. Eight years later, the LAPD will ask a federal judge to free the department from the consent decree on Monday. Is it time for the consent decree to lapse, or is more reform still needed?
