REFURBISHED EL CARISO COUNTY

POOL REOPENS SATURDAY, JUNE 20

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky announced today that El Cariso County Pool in Sylmar will reopen to the public this Saturday, June 20, after a $5.77 million refurbishment.

“We closed El Cariso Pool after the 2007 summer season to undertake these renovations and create the kind of quality facility that everyone could enjoy for many years to come,” Yaroslavsky explained. “Now, as we officially begin our 2009 summer season, I am pleased to announce the grand reopening of what is essentially a new, state-of- the-art facility that will enhance our community far into the future.”

Renovation of the facility included:

  • New pool deck and shell
  • Completely refurbished locker rooms with full access for disabled people
  • 50-meter pool entry with access for disabled people
  • A high-tech pool filtration system
  • Zero-depth entry shallow pool.
  • New decorative rod iron fencing
  •

El Cariso Pool was built in 1974 as part of El Cariso County Park, and is a focal point for Sylmar community recreation activities.  It hosts many of Los Angeles County’s large water sports tournaments such as the Regional and All-County swim, water polo, and diving meets.

Department of Parks and Recreation pool staff will begin sign-ups for free summer swim lessons at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, and the pool will be open for open recreational swimming from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A complete schedule of summer pool activities, including free swim and dive lessons and open recreational swimming, will be available to the public from the pool staff.
