WHAT | Press Conference to give an update on the status of Los Angeles County’s new 10,000 Jobs Program, including program challenges due to the State’s potential elimination of the CalWORKs Program. |
| |
STORY | The County of Los Angeles has launched a new program seeking to create as many as 10,000 temporary jobs in Los Angeles County with funding made available in the Federal Stimulus Package. The program will utilize over $100 million in federal funding to create subsidized employment opportunities in County departments, private sector employers, non-profit organizations, and in cities across Los Angeles County. Nearly 400 employees have already been hired through the program. The program, which will try and place 10,000 unemployed local workers in financially subsidized positions, could be derailed by a potential State cut of the CalWORKs Program. |
