BOARD SUPPORTS RIDLEY-THOMAS’ REQUEST TO UPHOLD
PLANNING COMMISSION’S DENIAL OF CONDITIONAL USE
PERMIT FOR WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS FACILITY
LOS ANGELES – On a motion by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, the Board of Supervisor today voted to uphold the County Regional Planning Commission’s decision to reject a condition use permit for a wireless telecommunications facility on the roof top of a CVS store in the Windsor Hills area.
The Regional Planning Commission denied the permit on February 19, determining the wireless facility was “incompatible” with the surrounding community and would “create negative aesthetic impacts” by obstructing the hillside views of residents’ homes overlooking the property.
Supervisor Ridley-Thomas credited the residents, who organized around the proposed project, with making their voices heard.
“The proposed wireless facility is a significant concern of the 700-plus residents who have weighed in on these proceedings,” the Supervisor said. “Although the wireless facility was proposed to be on top of a commercial building, it is surrounded by a predominantly quiet residential community.”
The Board unanimously supported Supervisor Ridley-Thomas’ request to close discussion and indicate its intent to uphold the Planning Commission’s denial of the CUP. He also requested that a report on the findings for denial of the CUP be prepared by County Counsel for the Board’s consideration.
