COUNTY HONORS 71 “VOLUNTEERS OF YEAR” APRIL 12

 

 

Adult & Youth Honorees Helped Station Fire Victims, Assisted Domestic Violence Victims and Advocated for Foster Youth

 

WHO:                                     Members, County Board of Supervisors

                                                Journalist Tony Cox, former NPR host, Emcee

 

WHAT:                                   28th annual Volunteer of the Year luncheon,                                                                          honoring 71 youth and adult volunteers            

                                   

WHEN:                                  Monday, April 12

                                                Noon:  Luncheon

                                                12:55 p.m.:  Presentation to Honorees

 

WHERE:                                Grand Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

                                                Music Center, 135 N. Grand Ave.

                                                Downtown Los Angeles

 

WHY:                                                                                     The County recognizes 71 dedicated volunteers, out of a

total of 37,654, as part of National Volunteer Week (April 19-

23) as proclaimed by the U.S. President. Last year

County volunteers donated 2.7 million hours of service to

various County programs, resulting in cost avoidance of

$55.1 million dollars. Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich

                                                                                                Introduced the Board motion to create the program in 1981.
