Big Tujunga re-opened to restricted traffic

BIG TUJUNGA ROAD RE-OPENS TO RESTRICTED TRAFFIC

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has re-opened a section of Big Tujunga Canyon Road, from the Los Angeles City limit to Vogel Flats Road within the Angeles National Forest.

The road has been re-opened as a construction zone with access limited to residents, contractors, and emergency vehicles only while Public Works crews continue to clear plugged roadway culverts and inlets.

Angeles Forest Highway, Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road and the section of Big Tujunga Canyon Road from Vogel Flats Road to Angeles Forest Highway remain closed in the wake of last week’s storms.

A 20-foot section of Angeles Forest Highway was washed away during the storms.  Repairs are expected to take at least six weeks to complete.  For updates on the forest road closures, motorists can visit the Coordinated Agency Recovery Effort (CARE) website at www.dpwcare.org.

Caltrans has also advised that Angeles Crest Highway also remains closed due to mudslides and debris.  Caltrans will re-open the highway when clean-up has been completed.  For updates on Angeles Crest Highway, call Caltrans Public and Media Affairs at (213) 897-3656, or visit www.dot.ca.gov/dist07.
