LOS ANGELES COUNTY – Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich joined County officials at Fire Camp 2 in La Canada Flintridge to give a storm update.
By 8:00 a.m. over 1,200 homes had successfully been evacuated by the Sheriff's Department and local law enforcement due to potential debris flows.
Supervisor Antonovich praised the team effort by the County's departments and local municipalities who are on the front lines to protect life and property.
This coming Tuesday (January 26, 2010), the Board of Supervisors will forward a proclamation to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger asking him to declare a state of emergency throughout Los Angeles County, in order to:
§ Waive regulations which may hinder response and recovery efforts;
§ Make recovery assistance available under the California Disaster Assistance Act;
§ Expedite access to federal resources and disaster relief programs, including the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
