BOARD APPROVES SUPERVISOR RIDLEY-THOMAS’ REQUEST TO UPHOLD DENIAL OF CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR LARGE OUTDOOR BILLBOARD IN THE WILLOWBROOK AREA
LOS ANGELES – The Board of Supervisors today approved Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas’ request to uphold the County’s Regional Planning Commission’s decision to deny a conditional use permit for a large outdoor advertising sign in the Willowbrook community.
The commission voted last August to deny CBS Outdoor Media’s application for the 42-foot-high sign, the maximum height allowed in any part of the unincorporated county, including freeway signs and signs in areas surrounded by multiple-story buildings.
“The proposed billboard is incompatible and out of scale in the context of the surrounding community,” Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said, noting the neighboring community consists mainly of low-rise, one-story buildings, including two houses of worship and a number of single family residences.
The Board directed the County Counsel to prepare the final findings for denial of the Conditional Use Permit to CBS outdoor.
