BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO PROCLAIM LOCAL

EMERGENCY IN RESPONSE TO WINTER STORMS 

 

LOS ANGELES (Thu., Jan. 21, 2010) – Due to recent series of winter storms that have resulted in loss of property, evacuations, and closures of major transportation routes, the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors will be asked to ratify a motion proclaiming a local emergency at the upcoming Board of Supervisors meeting scheduled on Tue., Jan. 26.

Beginning on Jan. 18, the conditions of extreme peril to the safety persons and property arose as a result of severe rainstorms, winds, flooding, and mud and debris flow in the County of Los Angeles. Local emergency applies to jurisdictions throughout the County of Los Angeles, the proclamation will be forwarded to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with a request that he proclaim a State of Emergency throughout the County of Los Angeles, waive regulations which may hinder response and recovery efforts, make recovery assistance available under the California Disaster Assistance Act, and expedite access to Federal resources and disaster relief programs including the United States Army Corp. of Engineers.
