MARRIAGE LICENSE FEES INCREASE
EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2010
Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean Logan announced that effective February 1, 2010, the Public Marriage License fee will be $90.00 and the Confidential Marriage License fee will be $85.00.
The fee adjustment was authorized on December 22, 2009 by the Board of Supervisors after a fee study revealed that current fees were below actual processing costs. The Board’s action amended Title 2 - Administration of the Los Angeles County Code, relating to marriage license fees charged to the public. The adjustment is the first since 2004 and reflects an increase of $20.00 for a Public Marriage License and a $15.00 increase for a Confidential Marriage License. Prior costs were $70.00 each for both the Public Marriage License and the Confidential Marriage License. The old fees set in 2004 no longer reflect current processing costs.
The comprehensive fee studies were performed by the RR/CC and included a review of all applicable costs such as salaries and employee benefits, supplies, equipment and overhead. The increase in fees will ensure that Los Angeles County can recover the full costs for marriage license services and provide quality customer service.
Information on how to obtain a marriage license can be found on the RR/CC website link http://www.lavote.net/Clerk/Marriages.cfm. A
marriage license application can be completed online at https://lavote.net/SECURED/MARRIAGE/mrglicense.asp. Once the online
application is completed the marriage license is available for pick up at the RR/CC Headquarters in Norwalk or at any one of the RR/CC
branch offices. Payment of the license fee is required at pick up and arrangements for conduct of a civil marriage ceremony can be
made, if desired.
Additional information regarding the license fees increase can be obtained by calling Portia Sanders, Assistant Manager, RR/CC Public
