County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation

Launches YouTube Channel

Los Angeles, CA—The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to announce the launch of one of Los Angeles County’s first official YouTube channels.  This foray into cutting edge Web 2.0 and social networking technologies is part of the Department’s digital media initiative and will allow unprecedented information sharing while greatly raising the visibility of the Los Angeles County parks and services.

“Our mission to create community through people, parks, and programs can now also be carried out by creating a new parks and recreation community through social networking,” says Russ Guiney, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation. “Our YouTube channel is an innovative way to share with Los Angeles County and the world our amazing parks and services.  Whether it’s a clip of skateboarders doing tricks at Belvedere Skate Park or a closer look at the endangered animals housed at one of our natural areas, we hope to capture a wider audience through YouTube. ”

The Parks and Recreation YouTube channel will showcase original videos produced by the Department, including Public Service Announcements, park tours, interviews, closer looks at the department’s animals, facilities and programs and much more.  With virtually every sport and recreational activity available through the department of parks and recreation, there will be no shortage of subject matter for the Department’s YouTube channel.  Additionally, the site will also link to interesting YouTube content created by County of Los Angeles park visitors.

The first video posted is the short PSA, Stop and Smell the Flowers, which is part of the Play for Life! public information and social marketing campaign launched earlier this year.  Content will be posted regularly.

The Department of Parks and Recreation plans to expand its digital media initiative in the coming year in order to continue reaching the growing web-savvy population.
