POMONA (Dec 4, 2008) – Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina announces the L.A. Philharmonic’s annual “Community Concert” at Pomona First Baptist Church, 601 N. Garey Avenue in Pomona, December 18 at 7:30 p.m.  (Doors open at 7 pm. No intermissions).

“We are pleased to partner with Pomona’s Cultural Alliance and the many sponsors who help bring the world-renowned L.A. Philharmonic to our local community,” said Molina. “This community concert is a special tradition in my district -- which provides children and families the opportunity to experience world-class music in their very own neighborhood.”

The one-hour concert features Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on “Greensleeves,” Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate and Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Suite No. 1.  The concert from the Shadow of Stalin series features works from Shostakovich and Mosolov.

Partially funded by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, the Countywide Neighborhood and Community Concert series includes performances in Pomona, Inglewood and the San Fernando Valley.

The Pomona concert is organized in partnership with Pomona’s Cultural Alliance, and co-sponsored by Cal Poly Pomona, City of Pomona, Western University of Health Sciences, Mount San Antonio College, Pomona Unified School District, State Farm Agent John Forbing, Rotary Club of Pomona, Downtown Pomona's Owners Association, Tessier Family, Fairplex and Pomona First Baptist Church.

Low cost tickets can be purchased for $5.00 at Pomona City Hall's Community Services Office, 505 S. Garey Avenue, (909) 620-2321.  For more information about the  L.A. Philharmonic, contact www.laphil.com or (323) 850-2000.  –End-
