“Big Three” CEOs in the House

Yesterday the “Big Three” sweated it out in front of the Senate Banking Committee, today they go before the House Financial Services Committee. While it seems a certainty that the heads of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler will eventually get some version of the $34 billion in bridge loans they’re requesting from Congress, the details still need to be determined. How did it go today? We get the lowdown from two California lawmakers who sit on the House Committee.

The Big Two?

The CEOs of the Detroit automakers generally agreed Thursday to every condition lawmakers suggested - including a potential merger of Chrysler and General Motors - during yesterday's Congressional grilling on the industry's pleas for $34 billion in government aid. Sen. Robert Bennett, a Republican from Utah, said he thinks a merger between GM and Chrysler is a good idea. “It’s not a shotgun wedding,” he said. “It’s a marriage that makes sense.” Does it? And what would that mean to have a Big 2 instead of a Big 3?
