CS-1.     CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - EXISTING LITIGATION

(Subdivision (a) of Government Code Section 54956.9

 

A Dog’s Life Rescue, Inc., v. County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 357617

 

This lawsuit challenges the County policies and practices relating to the care and treatment of animals at County animal shelters.  (08-3585)

 

ACTION TAKEN:

 

The Board authorized settlement of the lawsuit titled A Dog’s Life Rescue, Inc., v. County of Los Angeles.  The substance of the settlement will be disclosed upon inquiry by any person as soon as the settlement becomes final following approval by all parties.

 

The vote of the Board of Supervisors was unanimous with all Supervisors being present.

 

 

CS-2.     CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - EXISTING LITIGATION

(Subdivision (a) of Government Code Section 54956.9)

 

Edmundo Daniel Rodriguez, et al. v. County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. TC 021140

 

This is a lawsuit for damages resulting from the alleged wrongful death of Edith Isabel Rodriguez at the MLK/Drew Medical Center.  (08-0612)

This lawsuit by an employee of the County Fire Department seeks damages for alleged unlawful employment actions.

74-B.     Chief Executive Officer’s recommendation: Appoint Emilio Salas to serve as Acting Executive Director, Community Development Commission and Housing Authority, effective January 3, 2009, until such time that an Executive Director is appointed by the Board; approve salary adjustment for Mr. Salas to an annual salary of $160,000, effective January 3, 2009 and throughout the period he serves as Acting Executive Director.  (08-3653)

 

ACTION TAKEN:

 

The Board appointed Corde Carrillo as Acting Executive Director, Community Development Commission and Housing Authority, effective January 3, 2009; in addition the Board instructed the Chief Executive Officer to return to the Board on January 6, 2009 with an appropriate employment agreement and salary recommendation.

 

The vote of the Board was unanimous with all Supervisors being present.
