MEDIA ADVISORY
EMERGENCY LANE CLOSURE ON SIERRA HIGHWAY
BETWEEN THE ANTELOPE VALLEY AND SANTA CLARITA
Headquarters – County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works (Public Works) is advising all motorist in the Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita area that an immediate closure of Sierra Highway between Avenue S (Antelope Valley) and Vasquez Canyon Road, and northbound Soledad Canyon Road at Lang Station in Santa Clarita is in effect.
The reason for the closure is that Caltrans has closed the 14 Freeway between Soledad Canyon Road in Santa Clarita and Palmdale Blvd (Hwy 138) in Palmdale. The extra traffic onto Sierra Highway has gridlocked both the highway and Soledad Canyon Road and is preventing Public Works road crews from snow plowing and sanding those roads.
The road will remain until they have been cleared of snow and determined safe for motorists to use.
Public Works is coordinating the closure and road maintenance with cities of Santa Clarita and Palmdale and with the California Highway Patrol in Newhall and the Antelope Valley.
Residents and motorist can obtain the latest information on road closures at http://dpwgis.co.la.ca.us/website/roadclosures/main.cfm .
