Ron has covered LA politics for 30 years.  No one knows the ins and outs of City Hall more than Ron.  No one is more qualified to be the taxpayers' watchdog.

Would you let your group know about this? I am sure many of them would support Ron Kaye over Wendy Greuel.

What can the Republicans do to convince voters that they have the better plan? How will they communicate this message? With Bush’s approval ratings hovering around 30 percent, a historic low, the challenge may be divorcing Senator McCain from President Bush’s legacy. Republican strategists lay out the plan to retain control of the White House.

Does McCain’s Energy Plan Have Voters Seeing Red?

A proponent of offshore-drilling and expanded nuclear power plants, McCain wants to end the nation's dependence on foreign energy with more domestic production and alternative energy sources. Does this plan, which includes a tax credit for people who buy zero-admissions cars, have Obama on the defensive and will it steer those on-the-fence voters into the red? Also, how will McCain bridge the gap over drilling in ANWR? He is against drilling there, but many Republicans, including his VP, Alaska Gov Palin, are ready to start drilling.

Pollster John Zogby's analysis of data never reveals quite what you expect. In his new book, “The Way We’ll Be,” he interprets survey data in a way that reveals a new zeitgeist in American culture that is less focused on money and endless consumer desire. Instead, Zogby finds Americans increasingly aligned with principals of consensus, attitudes of responsible living and demanding authenticity from media outlets and political leaders. His research suggests a switch in Americans' understanding of their place in a more holistic, globalized community… Is this utopian or just Zogbian?

WELFARE COSTS FOR CHILDREN OF ILLEGAL ALIENS IN
L.A. COUNTY NEARLY $37 MILLION IN JULY

LOS ANGELES COUNTY – New statistics from the Department of Public Social Services reveal that illegal aliens and their families in Los Angeles County collected nearly $37 million in welfare and food stamp allocations in July 2008, announced Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

Twenty five percent of the all welfare and food stamps benefits is going directly to the children of illegal aliens.  Illegals collected over $19 million in welfare assistance for July 2008 and over $17 million in monthly food stamp allocations, for a projected annual cost of $432 million.

Annually, the cost of illegal immigration to Los Angeles County taxpayers exceeds over one billion dollars, which includes $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $432 million in welfare allocations.  This does not include millions of dollars for education.

“Illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers,” said Antonovich.  “With $220 million, the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year – not including the millions of dollars for education.”

Public Defender Helps Improve System for Indigent Youth

              NEWS RELEASE

COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES

Public Defender to Work on National Effort to Improve Legal System for Indigent Youth

The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office has been chosen to participate in a select national effort to improve the legal system for indigent youth.

A six-agency California team which includes the Public Defender’s Office is one of four selected to become members of the new Juvenile Indigent Defense Action Network, which will have its inaugural meeting Oct. 2-3 in Washington, D.C.

The four – representing California, Florida, Massachusetts and New Jersey –will join Illinois, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Washington as so-called “Models for Change” states to develop innovative solutions and strategies to strengthen and enhance juvenile indigent defense systems.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is investing $100 million in Models for Change to support and accelerate promising models of juvenile justice reform to ensure young people receive the legal protections to which they are constitutionally entitled.

The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office is partnering with the Youth Law Center; the San Francisco Public Defender; the Center for Children, Families and the Courts of the Administrative Office of the Courts; the Loyola Law School Center for Juvenile Law and Policy, and the Human Rights Watch.

Under the leadership of Michael P. Judge, the Public Defender’s Office is widely recognized for its strong role in providing holistic legal advocacy at both the pre-trial and post-dispositional stages of juvenile delinquency court proceedings, and effectively advocating for the psycho-social needs of children in such areas as mental health, substance abuse, developmental disability, special education and employment.

The Juvenile Indigent Defense Action Network will actively engage juvenile defenders, policymakers, judges and other decision makers in designing proactive juvenile justice strategies, implementing reforms, creating opportunities for leadership, and devising concrete, measurable strategies to improve juvenile indigent defense systems at the local, state and national levels.

In its notification letter, the MacArthur Foundation said the California group had been selected because it demonstrated the commitment to improve the juvenile indigent defense policy and practice, the ability to bring together critical decision makers and stakeholders on its team, and the readiness to work with other Network members to help implement change within the state and provide leadership to other states in the nation.

How Many Illegal Aliens Live In L.A.?

How Many Illegal Aliens Live In L.A.?
By Walter Moore, Candidate For Mayor Of Los Angeles, WalterMooreForMayor.com
August 26, 2008

According to figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau today, of the 3.8 million people who live in the City of Los Angeles, at least 928,416 are "Foreign born; Not a Citizen." That's over 24% of the city's entire population.

To put that into perspective, the California Secretary of State says there are 834,406 voters registered as Democrats in the City of Los Angeles, 300,129 as "Decline to State," and 278,645 as Republicans.

Are you wrapping your gray matter around that one? There are more foreign-born non-citzens in our city than there are registered Democrats. And there are more than three foreign-born non-citizens for each independent, or each Republican.

Furthermore, 225,994 of L.A.'s foreign-born non-citizens live below the so-called "poverty level." So we've got over a quarter of a million foreigners living in our city below the poverty level. We are importing poverty, big-time.

By the way, the Census reports, "The official poverty definition uses money income before taxes and does not include capital gains or noncash benefits (such as public housing, Medicaid, and food stamps)." Makes you wonder how much we're shelling out for those "noncash benefits," doesn't it?

The Census did not report on how many of L.A.'s foreign-born non-citizens are here illegally. Nor, of course, did the Census report on how many vote illegally.

If you care about America's second-biggest city, don't just sit there shaking your head in disbelief. Help me become L.A.'s next Mayor, so I can revoke the "sanctuary city" policies that are ruining this once-great city. Click here to take action.
