Republican Strategy to Win in 2008

In 1993, it was about the economy. In 2004, it was about terrorism and national defense. What’s the issue driving this year’s election? What can the Republicans do to convince voters that they have the better plan? How will they communicate this message? With Bush’s approval ratings hovering around 30 percent, a historic low, the challenge may be divorcing Senator McCain from President Bush’s legacy. Republican strategists lay out the plan to retain control of the White House.

Guests:

Dan Schnur, is a Lecturer in Political Science at UC Berkeley and a Republican political strategist.

Does McCain’s Energy Plan Have Voters Seeing Red?

A proponent of offshore-drilling and expanded nuclear power plants, McCain wants to end the nation's dependence on foreign energy with more domestic production and alternative energy sources. Does this plan, which includes a tax credit for people who buy zero-admissions cars, have Obama on the defensive and will it steer those on-the-fence voters into the red? Also, how will McCain bridge the gap over drilling in ANWR? He is against drilling there, but many Republicans, including his VP, Alaska Gov Palin, are ready to start drilling.

Rep Michele Bachman: Representative from the 6th District of Minnesota and a member of the House Financial Services Committee. She is a GOP leader in the House calling for increased domestic oil and natural gas exploration
