Jamiel's Law: Daily News Reports On Today's "Hour of Power"

Jamiel's Law: Daily News Reports On Today's "Hour of Power"
By Walter Moore, Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles, WalterMooreForMayor.com
August 16, 2008

For some reason, I woke up at 2:30 a.m. -- which I never do -- and took a look at the Daily News online. Turns out they have a very nice article on our one-hour effort today to get signatures all over town to put Jamiel's Law on the ballot. Here's a link to the article: Signatures for Jamiel's Law Sought.

Let me thank you all again for TAKING ACTION to pass this law and fix this city.

And we CAN fix this city. We're not up against some invincible army, full of master tacticians. We're up against 16 feckless politicians, who were elected not because of their platform or credentials, but instead because of voter apathy and special interest money. For example, as you may recall from one of my earlier essays, if someone had run against Tony Cardenas and gotten a mere 3,625 votes, that person, not Cardenas, would be sitting on the City Council today.

All we have to do to replace Villaraigosa and the 15 City Council Members, and to put Jamiel's Law on the books, is to get our message to our fellow citizens. And even then, we don't have to reach all or even a majority of L.A.'s four million residents, because most of them ignore local politics anyway. Rather, if we can reach the 239,000 who voted against Prop S this past November, we can take control of City Hall and make L.A. great again.

In the meantime, let's get the 73,963 signatures we need to put Jamiel's Law on the ballot. Set forth below is the list of locations where volunteers will be gathering signatures today from noon to 1:00 p.m. Please remember: only registered voters who live in the City of L.A. can sign. Also, please note a new-and-improved address for the Westwood site, and note that one of the two Northridge venues has become a little "iffy," but the other is still good.

Thanks again. Let's make the Shaw Family proud of us.
