Sheriff Lee Baca to report on the policies and procedures used for undocumented aliens in the County’s jails.  (Item S-1, 11 a.m.) APPROVED ANTONOVICH MOTION TO REQUEST SHERIFF TO GIVE PRIORITY TO KNOWN GANG MEMBERS WHEN DOING INTERVIEWS TO IDENTIFY ILLEGAL ALIENS IN THE JAILS AND TO DETERMINE IF ADDITIONAL FUNDING IS NEEDED TO ENSURE ALL KNOWN GANG MEMBERS ARE INTERVIEWED BEFORE BEING RELEASED FROM JAIL

 

Support requested for the U.S.-Columbia Trade Promotion Agreement, which would make more than 80% of all U.S. exports to Columbia immediately duty-free and eliminate remaining tariffs and other trade barriers over 10 years.  (Item 2) DEFEATED 2-0, WITH BURKE, MOLINA AND YAROSLAVSKY ABSTAINING

 

Recommendation calls for extending $10,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of person(s) who shot and killed 16-year-old Samantha Salas on Jan. 26 as she walked with a friend in Monrovia area.  (Item 3) APPROVED

 

$350,000 proposal would fund construction of park in Wiseburn on Golden State Water Company land provided without cost in exchange for commitment to provide ongoing operations/maintenance services.   (Item 7)  APPROVED

 

Proposal would require all County commissions conducting public hearings under Brown Act rules to use cards for persons wishing to speak; and report back to Board in four weeks with recommendations on final adoption of uniform public hearing protocols.   (Item 8) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke proposes extension of $5,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the June 2007 murder of Nicole Harvey, who was shot and set on fire on Playa del Rey street.   (Item 11) APPROVED

 

Extension of $10,000 reward proposed for information leading to arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the murder of Antwan Emil Cole, who was shot while waiting for a bus in Athens on Feb. 8   (Item 12) APPROVED

 

Extension of $10,000 reward proposed for information leading to arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the death of 73-year-old Amada Simbala during a home invasion robbery in Harbor City on April 2.   (Item 13) APPROVED

 

Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky and Michael D. Antonovich request development of ordinance requiring restaurants in unincorporated areas that are part of franchises with at least 14 locations in state to post nutritional and caloric information for all standard menu items.  (Item 14) APPROVED

 

Board asked to oppose effort by the state to divert or reprogram “First Five” funds that were approved by voters to improve lives of young children.   (Item 16) APPROVED 4-0,WITH ANTONOVICH ABSTAINING

 

Proposal would establish process to fine those convicted of graffiti offenses and hold them, or their parents if minors, responsible for cost of cleanup.  (Items 21, 61) APPROVED WITH MOLINA AMENDMENT TO EVALUATE AFTER ONE YEAR AND PRESENT PLAN TO IMPLEMENT COUNTYWIDE

 

Action would restore pay differential between nurses and their managers.  (Item 22) APPROVED

 

Board approval sought authorizing the construction/operation/maintenance of 28-unit senior citizen apartment complex in East Pasadena.  (Item 23) APPROVED

 

$7 million proposal would fund nine remodeling projects at the new LAC+USC Medical Center Replacement Hospital.   (Item 24) APPROVED

 

Supervisors requested to increase the Measure B property tax assessment from 3 cents to 3.72 cents per improved square foot to maintain the existing trauma/emergency network.  (Item 25) APPROVED 4-1, WITH ANTONOVICH OPPOSED

 

Proposal would extend existing lease in Marina del Rey for 39 years to build 400 new apartments, a new 161 slip marina and option to build an additional 126 apartments.  (Item 26) CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICE CONT. TO 8/19

 

$7.1 million plan would fund street beautification and greening projects on Florence Avenue corridor in the Florence-Firestone area, and set Sept. 9 for bid openings.   (Item 30) APPROVED

 

Board asked to approve $450,000 to improve San Gabriel River bike trail in Lakewood.  (Item 39) APPROVED

 

$1.4 million proposal would repair a portion of the Mount Wilson Toll Road that was damaged by slides due to heavy rains in 2004-05, with full reimbursement expected from the City of Pasadena.   (Item 44) APPROVED

 

$775,000 settlement proposed for lawsuit concerning allegations that an employee of the Department of Health Services was subjected to harassment and retaliation.   (Item 48, cont. from 8/5) SETTLEMENT APPROVED; CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER CONT. CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN TO 9/2

 

Board asked to oppose the proposed Metropolitan Transportation Authority half-cent sales tax on November ballot.  (Item 64-A)  APPROVED 3-2, WITH BURKE AND YAROSLAVSKY OPPOSED

 

Supervisor Don Knabe recommends Board approve consolidation of MTA sales tax measure with the Nov. 4 General Election.   (Item 64-D)  APPROVED 3-2, WITH ANTONOVICH AND MOLINA OPPOSED
