Game Show: "Are You Smarter Than An L.A. City Council Member?"

Game Show: "Are You Smarter Than An L.A. City Council Member?"

"Jeopardy!" is my favorite game show, but it's pretty hard.

"Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" can pose some pretty challenging questions, too.

I think we need a game show that makes us all feel like geniuses, so I'm pitching "Are you Smarter Than An L.A. City Council Member?"

Contestants would match wits against actual L.A. City Council Members. Here's a sample question:

Which of the following poses the most serious threat to public safety?

A. Hamburgers.

B. Plastic bags.

C. Walking past a smoker on a sidewalk.

D. llegal alien gang bangers.

Council Member Jan Perry picks hamburgers; Parks says it's pedestrians with cigarettes; and Rosendahl rings in with plastic bags.

You, by contrast, know the correct answer, because you have common sense and are therefore smarter than an L.A. City Council Member.

Doug McIntyre of KABC 790 regularly poses an even better question to Council Members: "What are you doing today that's more important than passing Jamiel's Law?"

This past Thursday, when Doug led a big protest outside Council Member Weiss's office -- a protest attended by hundreds of people, and covered by CNN but not the local newspapers -- guess where Weiss was? Weiss was posing for a photo-op at a new cross-walk.

Let us never forget, however, why Jamiel's Law is necessary in the first place: Mayor Villaraigosa refuses to change his "sanctuary city" policies.

You see, there's no law that makes L.A. a sanctuary city for illegal alien gang bangers. Rather, it is a merely a policy -- a policy created by a memo, a policy that can be revoked or amended by another memo. Mayor Villaraigosa could deny "sanctuary city" protection to illegal alien gang bangerswith the stroke of a pen.

So, while we are right to heap contempt on the City Council Members for collaborating with the gangs, we must remember the ring-leader of this ongoing criminal conspiracy at City Hall: Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

And it is a crime we're witnessing every day in this city. Aiding and abetting illegal immigration is itself a federal crime, punishable by imprisonment. (8 U.S.C. 1324.)

If an ordinary citizen knowingly harbors an illegal alien, or creates a distraction to prevent authorities from arresting him, or makes a false identification card to avoid detection, the citizen can be indicted and imprisoned.

There's no exception in the law for Mayors, City Council Members or Police Chiefs.

And that, in turn, suggests another question for a game show: "Do you think you're above the law?"
