Inglewood resident Jalondra A. Davis honored for recently being crowned Miss Black California USA 2009.

 

Board asked to approve ordinance restricting parking on Fir Avenue in Florence-Firestone area to residents and merchants who purchase a $120 yearly permit to alleviate increased street parking problems from multi-unit developments. (Item 8) APPROVED

 

Fee on waste disposal would be raised to $1.50 per ton from 86 cents to fund waste reduction, recycling and pollution prevention programs.  (Item 9) PUBLIC WORKS CONT. TO 10/7

 

Board considers appeal of Regional Planning Commission’s approval of proposal to build an unmanned wireless telecommunications facility in View Park.   (Item 10) BURKE REFERRED BACK TO REGIONAL PLANNING

 

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich proposes extension of $10,000 rewards for information leading to arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the July 8 vandalism of two abandoned homes in Palmdale and  arrest and conviction of Jesus Humberto Canales, who is accused of  July 12 murder of girlfriend Lucy Preciado in Quartz Hill.  (Items 14, 15) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Gloria Molina recommends the Office of Affirmative Action take responsibility for handling employment discrimination complaints for six departments and the Office of Public Safety, identified as having higher risk potential to the County.  (Item 17) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky asks Board to oppose Prop. 4 on November ballot, which would require physicians to notify the parents of any pregnant minor seeking an abortion, and Prop. 8, which would overturn the State Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriages.   (Item 23, 24) APPROVED

 

$300,000 proposal would fund additional construction costs as part of the Customer Service Center/Civil Service Commission Hearing Room Renovation projects in the Hall of Administration, upping total budget for both projects to about $1.2 million.  (Item 26) APPROVED

 

Board asked to approve annual salary of $206,450 for Thomas O. Tindall, the newly appointed director of the Department of Internal Services.   (Item 29) APPROVED

 

$600,000 proposal would fund refurbishment of the skate park and general improvements at Bassett Park in La Puente area.  (Item 34) APPROVED

 

Update to be given on a victims assistance fund that would provide financial, emotional, and government support for the families of the victims of the Sept. 12 Metrolink crash.   (Item 38) RECEIVED AND FILED

 

Board in closed session discusses case alleging that a former employee of the Probation Department was subjected to discrimination and retaliation.  (Item CS-1) CONT. TO 10/7
