Report scheduled on options for creating an independent entity or contractor to monitor all aspects of the administration/operations/functions of the Department of Health Services, status on the recruitment efforts for a new director of health services and creation of a health authority, and implementation of auditor-controller’s recommendations relating to King-Harbor Hospital employee background checks and competencies.   (Item S-1, 11 a.m.)

 

Health Services Department gives financial status.  (Item S-2, 11:30 a.m., cont. from 6/17, 7/15 and 8/12)

 

$450,000 proposal would fund construction of homeless shelters in Glendale and Lancaster.  (Item 1-D)

 

$65,000 settlement proposed for two lawsuits stemming from loss of Section 8 housing vouchers, civil rights violations and emotional stress.   (Item 1-H)

 

$425,000 proposal would fund completion of the seismic retrofit/rehabilitation of the LeMesnager Barn in Deukmejian Wilderness Park in Glendale.   (Item 1-P)

 

Supervisor Gloria Molina proposes extension of $10,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the October 2007 attack of Marcial Sanchez, who was set on fire on Cesar Chavez Boulevard in East Los Angeles.   (Item 7)

 

Supervisor Yvonne B. Burked proposes $10,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the Aug. 10 murders of Jose Farias, Victor Farias, Vidal Rebolledo, and injury to Jose De Jesus Garcia at corner of Western Avenue and Imperial Highway in unincorporated area near Los Angeles.   (Item 9)

 

Board asked to approve award of $25,000 to individual who provided information leading to arrest and conviction of persons responsible for the March 2006 murder of Sheriff’s Deputy Maria Cecilia Rosa in Long Beach; and $10,000 reward to two individuals who provided information leading to arrest and conviction of person responsible for the June 2006 murder of Mihran Topouzoglou in Llano.   (Item 14, 15)

 

Supervisors asked to adopt uniform public hearing protocols for all County commissions that hold public meetings.  (Item 22)

 

Acceptance of $23,087 gift from estate of Helen H. Clark will fund expansion/refurbishment of facility housing cats at the Castaic Animal Shelter.   (Item 33)

 

Action would allow $2.1-$2.9 million to be spent to repair slope and road damage caused by 2005 rainstorms in Monte Nido. (Item 45)

 

$357,500 settlement proposed for lawsuit stemming from injuries sustained by a pedestrian who was struck by debris protruding from a pick-up truck driven by an employee of the Department of Beaches and Harbors.    (Item 53)

 

Board in closed session discusses lawsuit seeking damages for alleged civil rights violations by Sheriff’s Department personnel.   (Item CS-1)

 

Board in closed session discusses case alleging that a former employee of the Probation Department was subjected to discrimination and retaliation.   (Item CS-2)

 

Board in closed session considers candidate for the position of lead attorney of the Children’s Special Investigation Unit.   (Item CS-4)
