LA County swift water rescue team deployed to Louisiana

LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT SWIFT WATER RESCUE TEAM

DEPLOYS TO THE HURRICANE RAVAGED LOUISANA AREA

 

            On Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 11:45 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department deployed a 14 Member Swift Water Team to Louisiana to support logistical and potential rescue operations for those affected by hurricane Gustav.

 

The team assembled out of the Technical Operations Center in Pacoima, California just before midnight on Sunday August 31, 2008 and prepared for a caravan to the Gulf Area.  The crew will be there for an unknown amount of time to assist and support the Office of Emergency Services for the State of Louisiana.  The team is one of seven supporting FEMA teams at the request of Emergency Assistance Compact (EMAC) to respond to the Gulf States Region.

 

            In addition, the department has responded seven overhead personnel to support logistical needs of the team’s.  The Los Angeles County Fire Department Swift Water team members are well trained individual’s that specialize in various water rescue skills working with watercrafts and search equipment to perform life saving missions.
