Reaction to Bush Speech at RNC
After a one-day delay in political rhetoric, the RNC scrambled to get back on course with a compressed lineup of speeches last night. Headlining was President Bush, appearing via a video feed from Washington, who praised John McCain for his courage in his stand on the Iraq war. But how welcome is that praise, and are some Republicans a little glad the president, with his low approval ratings, didn't appear in person?

A Preview to McCain's Foreign Policy? Bomb First, Ask Questions Later
Sen. John McCain got into trouble early in his primary campaign when he attempted to make a joke, singing "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" to the tune of "Barbara Ann." The Senator's opponents, mostly Democrats, seized on his seemingly flippant readiness to attack a defiant Iran as an example of his overheated temper and flawed judgment on foreign policy issues. Since then Sen. McCain has moderated his tone on Iran, but he is still hawkish on stopping Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program and advocates American troops staying longer in Iraq. What might a McCain Administration foreign policy look like-we turn to an old pro for answers.

The View of the GOP From Mecca-Al Jazeera at the RNC
When delegates stream onto the convention at the Xcel Energy Center this week they'll see plenty of familiar media outlets around the arena, from NBC to CNN. But there's one media sign that might look somewhat out of place: Al Jazeera is here covering the RNC, set up with a skybox suite and even reporting on protests in the streets around the convention center. What's the view of the Grand Old Party, and American politics in general, from the Muslim and Arab worlds?

McCain Popular with Gay Republicans
John McCain polls well with gay and lesbian Republicans; while he defines marriage as a union between a man and woman, he opposes a federal ban on gay marriage, arguing individual states should decide. What else attracts gays and lesbians to the Republican nominee and platform? What positions do they hope McCain incorporates and how does he negotiate these more moderate Republican supporters with more conservative factions of his party?

McCain, Too Soft on Immigration?
The conservative wing of the Republican Party has repeatedly criticized John McCain's immigration reform efforts as too moderate. McCain co-sponsored the bipartisan McCain-Kennedy immigration bill, which favored creating a path to U.S. citizenship for illegal immigrants, while some of his more conservative Republican colleagues denounced the plan as virtual amnesty. Where does McCain stand now and how can he reconcile the divisions within his party?
