Mayoral Matching Funds - Some Good News And A Prediction By Walter Moore, Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles, WalterMooreForMayor.com September 3, 2008 First, the good news: Thanks to approximately 1,1000 people who have "stepped up to the plate" by contributing to my campaign, we almost qualify for matching funds. We have raised about $127,000 of the $150,000 needed to qualify. We're just $23,000 away from qualifying. So let's get those contributions rolling in, shall we? If just 230 people donate just $100 each, we're there. Assuming, as I do, that we will raise the remaining $23,000, then in November 2008, after I submit the appropriate paperwork, the City will essentially double all contributions made after March 3, 2008. That means if you contribute $500 now, you're not only helping me spread the word and qualify for matching funds today, but are also getting me another $500 from the City in November. Finally, YOU can benefit from some of the taxes you pay! Now for the prediction: Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will announce, between now and the end of November 2008, that, because tax revenues are (supposedly) so limited, he has decided to forego matching funds. He will characterize his decision as one to avoid burdening the taxpayers. The real reason for his decision, however, will be to avoid having to debate yours truly. You see, one of the "strings" attached to matching funds is an obligation to debate other candidates who qualify for matching funds. And we know from experience that the LAST thing Villaraigosa wants to do is go head-to-head with me in a debate, especially if it's only a two-man, Lincoln-Douglas type debate. If you haven't already contributed, make today the day. Let's blow past that $150,000 ASAP. And urge your out-of-town and out-of-state friends to contribute, would you? All Americans can legally contribute. Click here to contribute by credit card or check. |
