L.A. COUNTY REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK AND SECRETARY OF STATE

“PITCH” VOTER REGISTRATION WITH THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS

On Friday, September 19, 2008, the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) will be recognized as an official partner when the first place Los Angeles Dodgers face the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium.  In partnership with the Dodgers, the RR/CC will host voter information and registration booths throughout Dodger Stadium to encourage voter registration and to recruit poll workers.  The first 50,000 fans in attendance will receive a Dodgers Golden Moment Flip Book.

Secretary of State Debra Bowen will join Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan during the pre-game show where she will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.  “We want to remind Dodger fans that just as one hit can make a difference in a ball game; one vote can make a difference in an election,” stated Logan.  “We are very excited to share this partnership with Secretary Bowen and the Dodgers.”

In addition to the September 19 game sponsorship, voter information and registration booths will be available at Dodger Stadium on the Reserve and Loge Levels at all remaining home games through September 25.

Dodger fans can play a vital role in the democratic process by signing up to work as poll workers or student election workers in the November 4, 2008 Presidential General Election.  Details, along with other important voter educational materials, are available online at www.lavote.net.

Los Angeles County serves all voters including those with specific needs. Polling places are equipped with audio ballot booths that provide audio translation of ballots and other assistive services for voters with disabilities. Registration and election materials are also available in seven languages to serve citizens with limited English proficiency.

The Dodgers and the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk encourage all eligible residents to register to vote before the October 20, 2008 close of registration so they can cast a vote in the upcoming Presidential General Election.  Vote – you count!
