Unique Collaboration of County Departments to Kick Off
Pilot Program to Help Transition General Relief
Recipients into the Competitive Labor Workforce
Participants, selected from the DPSS’s General Relief Opportunities for Work (GROW) Program, will be monitored to measure success rate of new pilot program
WHAT: The announcement by L.A. County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke, various heads of County departments and representatives of San Francisco-based Benefit Cosmetics of “Define Your Image,” a unique pilot program designed to provide men and women receiving government assistance with much needed grooming tips and job skill workshops to help them in their sometimes difficult integration into the labor workforce.
Workshop topics will include “Fastrack Make-overs,” “Dress for Success Strategies,” and “Money Motivation.” Over 15 local companies will be on hand to meet with participants to discuss employment opportunities. Define Your Image participants will begin receiving makeovers beginning at 9 a.m.; workshops in session on interview techniques and employers meeting with participants to discuss employment opportunities.
WHO: Supervisor Burke; Parks & Recreations Director, Russ Guiney; L.A. County Dept. of Public & Social Services Director, Phillip L. Browning; Los Angeles County Office of Education Director, Mary Williams; representatives of Benefit Cosmetics; and 30-plus diverse Define Your Image participants. Former GROW program participant, Juan Arredondo, who is now successfully employed, will talk about his experience and share the story of his incredible transformation.
