Abortion and Parental Notification: Prop 4

In 2006 and 2005 there were propositions on the ballot that sought to amend the California constitution to require a waiting period and parental notification for minors seeking abortions. This year the basic outline of the amendment appears again as Prop. 4. Will the fact of a Presidential election change the dynamic of who turns out to vote and the chances it has of passing? And what will be the impact of having the gay marriage ban on the same ballot in energizing the base of socially conservative, anti-abortion voters?

Smogged in the City of Angels

To Angelenos, that yellow brown haze that floats above the would-be beautiful landscape of the city is just another fact of life.  Most of us don’t know L.A. without it…but it wasn’t always there.  In their book “Smogtown,” journalists Chip Jacobs and William J. Kelly take a fresh look at the decades of reaction to this particular air born pollution. They bring us the history of smog in Los Angeles and explain how our attempts to clean-up have molded the modern-day culture of the city.

Guests:

Chip Jacobs and William Kelly, co-authors of "Smogtown"

Chip Jacobs is a freelance writer specializing in investigative, environmental, and political journalism, He has reported for The Los Angeles Times, The Daily News of Los Angeles, LA Weekly, and CNN; William Kelly is a writer for LA CITYBEAT.
