National Public Lands Day Commemorates Park Beautification
With
Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Regional Parks: Frank G. Bonelli, Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area,

Los Angeles County – Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation is participating in National Public Lands Day, a nationwide program with the objective to plant one million trees by September 27, 2008, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corps. Co-sponsored by the National Environmental Education Foundation, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. and Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, the event will include Four Regional Facility Agency Parks throughout Los Angeles County:
Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, located at 120 Via Verde Park Road, San Dimas, CA 91733, will plant 30 trees and 50 native plants, helping to restore native wildlife habitat and also provide more shade for park visitors. This event takes place at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, on September 27, 2008. Volunteers are needed to plant trees and native shrubs. Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area located at 4100 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90056, is hosting its first annual Public Lands Day and will plant numerous plants and shrubs for park beautification with the help of volunteers, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on September 27, 2008. For additional information please contact the park at (323) 298-3660.
Peter F. Schabarum Regional Park, located at 17250 E. Colima Road, Rowland Heights, CA, 91748 will be installing a native plant garden, trees and plants at the park entrance and cleaning out the federally protected “Blue Line Stream.” The days’ event starts at 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., on September 27, 2008. Also participating is Santa Fe Dam Regional Park, located at 15501 E. Arrow Hwy., Irwindale, CA 91706, where volunteers will trim shrubs, prune native spruces and participate in shoreline clean-up. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. For more information please call the park at: (626) 334 -1065 on September 27, 2008.
Water and refreshments will be offered at all four facilities, and volunteers will need to sign in upon entering the parks. Also, volunteers are asked to wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and gloves to participate, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. For more park information visit: www.lacountyparks.org.
The National Public Lands Day is encouraging public land managers, non-profit groups, school groups, and individuals to plant trees in honor of the CCC. Register your trees to be counted at www.publiclandsday.org.
