LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- Supervisor Antonovich honored women’s soccer superstar Han Duan, the only Chinese player in the Women’s Professional Soccer inaugural season, with a proclamation during a special meeting of the Board of Supervisors. She plays the forward position for the Los Angeles Sol Soccer Club. Born June 15, 1983 in Dalian, Han’s father embraced the game of soccer, and at a early age taught his daughter the basic skills, the dribbling, the passing, and shooting needed to become a champion. A man of faith, her father instilled in his daughter strong Christian values and a work ethic. Han Duan debuted with the Chinese women's national soccer team in December 2000. Han finished seventh in the voting for FIFA Women's Player of the Year in 2006 and became the first Chinese player to finish in the top-10 since Sun Wen in 2002. As a member of the national team, she won an Algarve Cup in 2002, the AFC Women's Asian Cup in 2006, the Women's East Asian Cup in 2008, top three finishes at the 2002 and 2006 Asian Games, and quarterfinal appearances at the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women's World Cups. Additionally, she was a member of China’s national team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
