JOSE ITURBI PIANO COMPETITION WINNER RUFUS CHOI

APPEARS WITH MARINA DEL REY SUMMER SYMPHONY

AUGUST 6

Rufus Choi, 2008 winner of the prestigious José Iturbi International Piano Competition, will appear as soloist with conductor Frank Fetta and the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony on Thursday, August 6, 7:00 pm, at Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina de Rey.  The concert is presented free to the public.

Mr. Choi will perform Rachmaninoff’s Concerto no. 3 in D minor.  The orchestra will also be heard in the monumental Symphony no. 3 by Aaron Copland.

American born with a Korean heritage, Rufus Choi discovered the language of music at age six.  His mother guided him in his first music instruction, but through the years he was to be mentored by master teachers Vladimir Krainev, Konstantin Sirounian, Bruce Sutherland and Oxana Yablonskaya.  He graduated from the Juilliard School with a Masters in Music and he earned the highest advanced degree attainable from the Musik Hochschule in Hanover, Germany.  Mr. Choi began appearing in solo recitals while still a child, and during his teen years won competitions that provided opportunities to perform with orchestras worldwide.  In addition to winning first prize in the Iturbi Competition, he was also named winner of the Competition’s People’s Choice Award, which affirmed his remarkable talent to connect musically with his audiences.
