MEDIA ADVISORY

DCFS, Faith-Based Partners and Business Community Team Up to Help Meet the Needs of More Than 1,000 Children and Families in West Los Angeles on Thursday, July 23rd

L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky to Honor Faith Community

WHAT:            The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), West Los Angeles Office, in an innovative partnership with the faith partners Self-Realization Temple and Kehillat Israel Synagogue and business partner J.H. Snyder Company, will officially open its doors on Thursday, July 23, 2009.  This new office, through the support of County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, will help meet the needs of more than 1,000 youth and their families living in the West Los Angeles area.   The Self-Realization Temple of Pacific Palisades has been a partner with the office for more than 11 years, and has donated more than $400,000 in holiday gifts to the children served by the West Los Angeles DCFS Office.  A newer faith partner, Kehillat Israel Synagogue, has donated more than 40 fully loaded laptop computers and printers for children and youth in care of the Department since 2008.  Kehillat members send many children birthday cards, gifts and birthday cakes, and have also worked to match mentors with youth emancipating from Department services.  The building owner, Mr. J.H. Snyder, of J.H. Snyder Company has warmly welcomed DCFS to its new location, and has brought the partnership numerous building foodservice tenants to the opening event.  They will provide food and drink to the more than 300 guests invited to the grand opening.
