ANTONOVICH SUPPORTS TRUCK BAN ON STATE ROUTE 2, CALLS FOR MEASURES TO PREVENT TRUCK ACCIDENTS

LOS ANGELES COUNTY – In the wake of the fatal, multi-vehicle truck accident in La Cañada Flintridge, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has expressed his support for CALTRANS’ truck ban on State Route 2 and has called for a comprehensive investigation into truck bans on County roads and the implementation of recommended safety improvements.

“This action will prevent future tragedies and enhance traffic safety measures on our County highways.  It will ensure that appropriate truck weight restrictions and bans are in place, traffic safety laws are adequately enforced and that truckers are made aware of the restrictions through necessary signage,” said Antonovich.

The motion directs the Chief Executive Officer to draft a 5-signature letter from the Board of Supervisors to state officials supporting the ban on large trucks on SR-2 and requesting the implementation of additional safety measured and increased enforcement by the California Highway Patrol on Angeles Forest Highway and State Route 2.

In the next 90 days, the Department of Public Works will perform a comprehensive review of truck bans implemented on County roads and submit recommendations for additional safety measures including improved signage and enforcement.
