COUNTY OFFICIALS THANK CHILD CARE PROVIDERS FOR TAKING THE RIGHT STEP
Special Reception Will Honor Their Commitment to Excellence
(Los Angeles) Two years after the County of Los Angeles began an innovative child care rating system to help parents make informed child care choices for their children, Supervisor Don Knabe will recognize and thank the participating child development centers and family child care providers that made a commitment to improve the quality of their services. Over 200 programs have participated in the Steps to Excellence Project (STEP) rating system since it began in July 2007 in 10 communities with Los Angeles County.
When the rating program launched in 2007, its goal was two-fold, to educate parents and improve the quality and services of the centers. Participants in STEP voluntarily open their programs to an intense observation and administrative review process and have access to training and support if needed to improve their operations. The reception on April 14 will highlight the program’s success and the positive impact the program has had for parents who are seeking quality child care for their children.
